The Way it Works

PageLayer is a JavaScript application that can be easily integrated to any traditional website. When the application is running, a collection of tools and functionalities is added over the original website to make its content editable. All the content manipulation takes place in the website itself, while keeping the same layout, design and properties.

The aim of PageLayer is to be simple yet powerful: using basic building blocks, it is easy to create elaborated layouts that work on every browser.

PageLayer's interface is close to a traditional word processing software, making users feel comfortable in a known environment.

How is it different from a traditional Content Management System?

The traditional method to update a website content is to fill form fields with no or little styling, and submit the new content in order to see a result in the website final design. This often means several adjustments and a lot of traveling between the editing form and the website's preview to obtain a satisfying result. With such tools, the layout and design possibilities are usually very limited.

PageLayer runs directly on the web page to modify. There is not difference between the tool and the result. Every change is instantaneous and the user can see in real time what the new content looks like.

It is faster and more intuitive as it feels more like a desktop application.

On the same basis, PageLayer includes a picture editing tool to resize and crop images without leaving the page. The picture can be manipulated while still in the document flow, allowing precise adjustment and a sure integration within the surrounding content.

Understood, but How do You Use it?

When you log onto PageLayer you can see your website exactly the way it is. But now, all elements (paragraphs, pictures) are dynamic: you can select them, move them around, edit their content, dimensions and style. A tool bar is displayed at the top of your browser window that gives you many ways to style your content, change the layout or make adjustments. It works just like a word processor.

A Library window offers new content blocks for you to drag and drop into your page.
